Wow - did you actually make this in 5 days? This looks amazing! I wish I could do something half as cool in that time!

Do you have any plans to scale this up into a full game?

Jasonario responds:

Yep! You can watch the making of video in the link in the description! Though I used a lot of pre-made assets that I made or others made. I'm actually testing it out to see how people like it and I may make it into a larger game

Fun game!

The animation for the characters jump cycle is really nice looking - reminds me of old disney games, looks amazing!

The main issue I had was that the background and foreground colours look nearly identical to me. A number of times I made a jump on to a platform that wasn't there.

Other than that cool game - if other people have the same issue it might be worth looking at tweaking the background colours.

I hope thats helpful!

SafeBuckle responds:

Thanks for playing the game i will take a look at the background.

I like the atmosphere you created in this - music and colour design work really well.

Unfortunately, I found the "reaping" part really tedious, particularly waiting for the animation to play out.

I was also disappointed that when I got all 30 souls, there was no "ending". It was just a single sentence then the game was over. I was hoping there would be some story or a twist to all of it.

I think you could take what you have here and create an interesting game about finding hidden secrets? I enjoyed trying to figure out how to get to the bottom bit, I just wish there was more of that and that I was rewarded a bit for finding secrets.

In any case, congrats on the game and hopefully you can build off this and your other projects!

I really like the art style here - did you make the pixel art assets for this?

The double jump feels good, and I think the levels are pretty well constructed. I ran into a few bugs / problems (I fell through the floor at one point) but in general fun little portfolio piece!

I think adding some further elements - such as a menu or a mute button would really add to this as a testament to what you can do!

Best of luck!

Fun idea!

I think if this was finished and polished a bit this could be a good game! I encountered a couple of bugs (including a game breaking error that froze it), and as far as I can see there were only 3 coins to collect?

I like the "things are not what they seem" theme - although I found it hard to jump with the hidden control scheme. You could definitely take it further with blocks that you fall through, maybe even an end of level portal that works in an unexpected way?

I hope you keep working on this - there's some great stuff here already!

Cool visuals!

I think there are some really nice elements to this game - you obviously know the issue between the jump/fall speed, but I think fixing that would go a long way for this project!

For a story based game, I would try and put in some more little breadcrumbs of story throughout the game - maybe the blue fire description could suggest something about the story?

For a first game great job and best of luck in the future!

EkaGriffin responds:

Thanks a lot, I don’t think I’ll do much more for this game since it was initially made for a game jam in the time of a bit more then a week. Buuut were working on another very cool project right now wich will be much more detailed in both visuals and gameplay so look forward to that! -Anastasia

I really enjoyed this!

I experienced a few issues with using items during the game, but otherwise I really enjoyed this.

The story and ending were very well constructed, with the environment giving you the majority of the information about Sarah.

I thought the art was nice, puzzle elements were pretty good etc. best of luck with the jam, I think this is such a strong entry!

JinxSpell responds:

Wow, thanks so much!! I'm really happy you appreciated the details.

Cool game!

In terms of comments, I felt that both the player sprite and the obstacles were quite big for the size of the game screen - I think the game would be more interesting if you reduce these in size.

Mechanics were grand - maybe you could add power ups to switch up the gameplay?

In terms of replayabilty, there wasn't a huge amount of variety, so I think it would be hard to replay the game.

Great effort though - hopefully some of the above notes are useful!

itsmine12 responds:

Thanks a bunch for the reviews. Power ups were part of my original plan but unfortunately I didn't have enough time to implement them :(

I really liked the visuals for this game, fair play - I definitely couldn't get such nice pixel art done in that time!

My issue was that the visuals and start of the game made me think this was going to be a serious/spooky game, but the direction it took was quite different. I'd love to see some kind of horror game made with the grey oppressive visual style!

porwaltz responds:

There are lots of games that look funny or cute and then turn out to be horror games. So i tried to do the opposite by making a game that seems to be a spooky one but in reality is hilarious.

I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this!

The mechanic and message in this work very well together - I think you did a great job in telling a story through gameplay and monologue. The simple graphical style serves the overall message too. Very impressed
